我的研究興趣在探討固體表面與原子或分子間的交互作用,以及奈米結構的製造與量測。屬於凝態表面物理實驗。使用的主要研究工具是可變化樣品表面溫度的掃描穿隧顯微術(STM)及原子力顯微術(AFM)。凝聚態物體與外界的交互作用始於表面,故表面與原子或分子的作用是界面反應的基礎。固體表面與外來原子或分子的起始作用是吸附反應。但經由固體表面的媒介,吸附原子或分子間產生遠比在氣態時還複雜的交互作用,這些交互作用決定薄膜成長的模式與吸附結構及其性質,對設計新型材料與感測器有關鍵性的影響。此外,奈米結構因微小尺度而表現出奇特的性質,故奈米結構吸引無可限量的研究與應用。 奈米結構的研究熱潮始於STM與AFM發明之後,主要的原因是此兩顯微術可以達到原子級的建構、量測與解析能力。目前我在這方面的研究興趣是用STM與AFM在矽晶片上建造奈米結構與量測其性質。利用探針在表面上的物理、化學或機械作用,形成性質迴異的奈米區域,再配合物理或化學的處理而形成奈米結構。
