1. Frequency stabilization and measurements of CO2 lasers
We introduced the optogalvanic Lamb-dip stabilization method to CO2 laser. We first performed the saturated fluorescence stabilization for sequence-band and hot-band CO2 laser transitions. Using our stabilization cell, we measured the frequencies of CO2 laser lines with Dr. K.M. Evenson of NIST, USA. Our results improve the molecular constants and frequencies for the CO2 laser.
2. Iodine-stabilization of lasers
We have built iodine-stabilized 543-nm HeNe lasers with stability better than 1 �e 10-13. We carefully studied this wavelength standard and the corresponding iodine hyperfine transitions. Recently, we have measured the frequencies of iodine hyperfine transitions in 750 to 780 nm using an optical frequency comb (OFC). At present, we are working with Professor Tiemann’s group in University of Hannover on improving the prediction of hyperfine frequencies.
3. Precision laser spectroscopy
A precision tunable PPLN-based DFG system is used to measure the Mid-IR transitions of simple molecular ions such as H3+, HeH+, and HD+. We have produced the most accurate transition frequencies for H3+ and HeH+. With Yi-Wei Liu’s group, we are working on the precision spectroscopy of Li, Tl, and He atoms using various lasers and OFC.
